Testing and Certification Basis

Basis for granting the Insulation-KEYMARK is the European certification scheme for thermal insulation products "Specific CEN KEYMARK Scheme Rules for Thermal Insulation Products", which was created by the responsible European certification committee (QAC - Quality Assurance Committee). The certification scheme is based on the following European product standards:

  • EN 14303 "Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - Factory made mineral wool (MW) products - Specification"
  • EN 14304 "Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - Factory made flexible elastomeric foam (FEF) products - Specification"
  • EN 14305 "Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - Factory made cellular glass (CG) products - Specification"
  • EN 14306 "Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - Factory made calcium silicate (CS) products - Specification"
  • EN 14307 "Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - Factory made extruded polystyrene foam (XPS) products - Specification"
  • EN 14308 "Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - Factory made rigid polyurethane foam (PUR) and polyisocyanurate foam (PIR) products"
  • EN 14309 "Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - Factory made products of expanded polystyrene (EPS) - Specification"
  • EN 14313 "Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - Factory made polyethylene foam (PEF) products - Specification"
  • EN 14314 "Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - Factory made phenolic foam (PF) products - Specification"
  • EN 15501 "Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - Factory made expanded perlite (EP) and exfoliated vermiculite (EV) products - Specification"
  • EN 14319-1 "Thermal insulating products for building equipment and industrial installations - In-situ formed dispensed rigid polyurethane (PUR) and polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam products"
  • EN 14320-1 "Thermal insulating products for building equipment and industrial installations - In-situ formed sprayed rigid polyurethane (PUR) and polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam products"
  • EN 15599-1 "Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - In-situ thermal insulation formed from expanded perlite (EP) products"
  • EN 15600-1 "Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - In-situ thermal insulation formed from exfoliated vermiculite (EV) products"

These standards specify the requirements and testing procedures for thermal insulation products concerning the characteristics that are defined in the designation code.

Quality criteria

The following quality criteria are incorporated into insulation material testing, for example:

  • Thermal conductivity
  • Maximum Service Temperature
  • Apparent density
  • Dimensions
  • Corrosive substances (AS quality)
  • Water absorption
  • Airflow resistivity
  • Water vapour diffusion resistance
  • Water vapour diffusion resistance
  • Fire behaviour

Furthermore, the manufacturer has to operate a product related Factory Production Control (FPC) taking into account the elements of the EN ISO 9001.

The conformity assessment for the self- and third party-surveillance as well as the scope of application are set in :

  • EN 13172 "Thermal insulation products - Evaluation of conformity"

Testing and Assessment

Only those thermal insulation products are granted to use the KEYMARK that were successfully tested by an accredited and approved registered Testing Laboratory and certifed by an acccredited Certification Body ampowered by the KEYMAK Management Organization, and thus proofed the compliance with the relevant EN Standards.

The KEYMARK certificate is valid for 2 years. It can be renewed for further 2 years if the monitoring measures and tests show continued compliance with all requirements.
