Which products can be certified?

  • Heat pumps covered by Lot 1 and Lot 2
  • Heat pump space heaters providing heat to water based central heating systems for space heating purposes
  • Heat pump combination heaters providing heat to water based central heating systems for space heating purposes and heat to deliver hot drinking and sanitary water.
  • Heat pump water heaters which are dedicated to providing hot drinking and sanitary water
  • Thermal capacity up to 400 kW
  • 2017: Extension to air/air HP covered under Lot 10
  • Future extension possible on industry request

Basis of Testing and Certification

The certification details and procedure are defined in a special European certification scheme, which was compiled jointly with the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) and other European certification bodies. This cooperation provides for the largest possible acceptance, transparency and marketability of the KEYMARK-certification of heat pumps in Europe.

The following European Standards and implementing regulations are contained within the testing and certification:

  • EN 14511-2 "Air conditioners, liquid chilling packages and heat pumps with electrically driven compressors for space heating and cooling - Part 2: Test conditions"
  • EN 14511-3 "Air conditioners, liquid chilling packages and heat pumps with electrically driven compressors for space heating and cooling - Part 3: Test methods"
  • EN 14511-4 "Air conditioners, liquid chilling packages and heat pumps with electrically driven compressors for space heating and cooling - Part 4: Operating requirements, marking and instructions"

Testing and AssessmentKEYMARK Flowchart

Only those heat pumps are certified with "KEYMARK", that were successfully tested by an accredited and registered testing laboratory bound by contract with the empowered Certification Body, neutrally assessed and thus proofed their compliance with the relevant European standards and the KEYMARK Scheme Rules.

After a positive assessment, the empowered Certification Body issues a KEYMARK certificate which is valid for 10 years. 

On application, the certificate may be renewed for another 10 years, provided the external surveillance in the form of an annual inspection of the Factory Production Control (FPC) as well as check test of the products has been successfully carried out every two years.

Transition

In order to facilitate a smooth introduction of the Heat Pump KEYMARK into the European market, transition rules apply for applications received until 31.03.2019 for domestic hot water heat pumps technologies and until 30.06.2019 for the space cooling mode of HP KEYMARK certified water based and combination heat pumps. Manufacturers are eligible to apply for the Heat Pump KEYMARK under a simplified application process if they are holders of a valid certificate issued under one of the following schemes:

For domestic hot water heat pumps:

  • Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS)
  • NF Electricité Performance (LCIE)
  • EHPA Quality Label (EHPA QL)

For water based heat pumps and combination heat pumps certified in space cooling mode:

  • NF Pompe a Chaleur (NF PAC)
  • LCP-HP Eurovent Certified Programme (ECC)
